Jackie
Jackie was our first college student and first college graduate. Regardless of the difficulties she faced when her son was born, she remained determined to finish college. That determination soon found her taking her infant to classes with her when she had no other childcare alternative. She would come home every day and ask God to help her find a way.

One day, after taking 10 month old Jamil to school with her again, she came home to a copy of the Toledo Blade sitting on the kitchen table, and a headline about an event to benefit a non-profit child care called Mom’s House caught her eye. The rest is history.
When Jamil started kindergarten in 1996, Jackie entered graduate school at Colorado State University. She is now back in Toledo, married with another child and works for the Dana Corporation.

Beth
Beth’s daughter was born at what should have been the end of her senior year of High School. Beth worked hard to graduate early, knowing that having a baby while trying to finish school would have been very difficult. When Aubree was 4 months old, Beth entered the Mom’s House program so that she could pursue a degree at the University of Toledo. Within 2 years, Beth earned not one, but 2 associates degrees, and made the decision to pursue of her bachelor’s degree. Upon graduation, she was offered a position at the University of Toledo where she is still employed. Beth was the first graduate to serve on our Board of Directors and is first President of the Mom's House Alumnae Association.

Ebony
Ebony’s daughter was born during her junior year of high school and while she had little outside support, she remained determined to finish school. While academics had always posed a challenge for her, with the support of the Mom’s House program, she became the first in her family to graduate from high school.

The following fall, she enrolled at Owens Community College. Her example served as an inspiration to her mother and sister who began their GED courses the very next semester. After graduating from Owens, she enrolled at Bowling Green State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Ebony is now married with a second child and works as an advocate in the juvenile justice system. 

Alandra
Alandra dropped out of high school when her first daughter was born. Over the next several years, she gave birth to 2 more daughters. When her eldest was 14, Alandra gave birth to her fourth daughter. This event gave her the push she needed to set some life goals. She became determined to have a high school diploma before her first born. 18 months later, she entered the Mom’s House program. Within 6 months, she passed the state GED test, and was enrolled at Davis College.
In the spring of 2006, Alandra will receive her associate degree and her eldest daughter will graduate from high school. The following semester, will find them both in pursuit of their bachelors degrees.

Emily
Emily and her 8 month old son enrolled at Mom’s House at the beginning of her senior year of high school. With the support of the Mom’s House program, she was able to maintain her status as an honor student. Through the scholarship program at Mom’s House, Emily earned a full ride to Lourdes College. Emily was the first of our clients to graduate from both from high school and a bachelor’s program.

During this time, Ken Rusk of Everdry Waterproofing, Inc., inquired with Mom’s House about any mom’s who might be interested in a job. In 4 years, Emily has risen from a part time employee to chief of operations. She recently bought a house for herself and her son.
